Summer has officially begun and it is the perfect time of year to enjoy your favorite ice cream treats. There is nothing like a big bowl of ice cream after a day at the beach or just to beat the summer heat. If you are traveling through New York this summer, here are few spots that are sure to provide the perfect cool and creamy treat.
10Below Ice Cream: New York City
A little bit ice cream, a little bit art, this unique ice cream shop will tempt your tummy and your eye. Located in Chinatown this charming spot is the first in New York to serve Thai-inspired ice cream rolls. The concept first appeared on the streets of Thailand, where vendors serve fresh, made-to-order ice cream. These unique dishes are the ice cream version of a craft cocktail. Each order is made with the finest ingredients. This means that the ice cream comes to you in its rawest form with no additives or preservatives.
Purity Ice Cream: Ithaca
Known as “The Ice Cream Shop of the Fingers Lake,” this little shop has been providing original, small batch ice cream to New York for several generations. The shop first opened in 1936 when then owner, Leo Guentert and his wife Sylvia, served homemade ice cream with the finest natural ingredients. Leo ran the shop until he died at the age of 96. In the late 1990s, it was taken over by new owners who used Leo’s recipes to keep customers coming into the shop. In addition to the ice cream menu the new owners also added homemade bakery items and a weekend breakfast option.
Cherries Deli: Stone Ridge
If you are looking for an independent restaurant that serves tasty hot dogs, awesome ice cream and amazing homemade fries, then this is the place for you. The location of the shop makes it a pretty busy spot during hot weather and especially on the weekends in the summertime, but it is well worth the wait. The menu is pretty varied, the ice cream is awesome, the staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable; what is not to love?
