The Flowering Lotus Meditation and Retreat Center was created to provide a quiet space for meditation, spiritual discovery and fellowship. The Center seeks to nurture peace, healing, understanding and diversity amongst its community and to connect like-minded individuals and their families with those who share their beliefs.
The Center follows the historical teachings of the Buddha and adheres to the idea that all beings have the potential for awakening. Though the basis of the program is connected to Theravada Buddhism, all faiths are welcome at the Center. The teachers at the Center are recognized worldwide for their knowledge of the Buddhist teachings and meditation techniques. Through their 3-10 day group retreats, they offer opportunities to connect with the physical, psychological and spiritual side of human nature.
In 2011 the Center made a move designed to open its doors to a broader population and changed the retreats from tuition based to donation based. This step was done as an effort to include everyone, regardless of the ability to pay, in their retreats. Guests are asked to donate directly to their teacher for the sessions in which they take part. A minimum of $50 per participant is suggested, though a more usual teacher donation typically sits in the $100-$195 range, with weekend retreats averaging $295-$425.
Retreats vary from year to year.
This year’s schedule includes, but is not limited to:
A Soft and Radical Transformation of the Heart: Balanced Sensitivity, Embodied Wisdom with Pascal Auclair. This workshop explores the idea of how “waking up,” could mean allowing ourselves to become sensitive again. It looks at the ways that intimacy (or lack thereof) with our inner and outer worlds impact our day-to-day lives.
The Path to Freedom and Love with Terry Ray: In this workshop, Terry Ray provides participants with the tools available to assist us to learn to realize our own natural intelligence and to find inner peace. The silent retreat offers guidance and space to assist participants in learning to trust their intuitive nature.
Dissolving Anger, Fear and Self-criticism through Heartfelt Meditation with Mushim Patricia Ikea: In this workshop, you will learn how strong emotions like anger, rage, anxiety, fear, and shame are produced by a harsh inner critic and explore ways to quiet that voice.
